Paterson makes Huddersfield switch

Huddersfield Town have signed Jamie Paterson on a season-long loan from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest,.

The winger has been allowed to join up with the Terriers after falling out of favour at the City Ground over the past year.

He has started just four league games since the start of the 2014/15 campaign, but played for Forest sixty-six times in total scoring thirteen goals in all competitions.

Prior to his move to the City Ground, the twenty-three year old racked up over a hundred appearances for Walsall since making his senior professional debut in August 2010.

Chris Powell’s side are yet to win this season, taking three points from their opening five games – a tally which leaves them sitting in the relegation zone.

You can´t teach Messi anything – Sampaoli urges Argentina to understand star man

Lionel Messi will be at the heart of Argentina s bid for World Cup glory – but head coach Jorge Sampaoli is not going to try teaching the Barcelona superstar anything.

Messi will return to the Argentina line-up against Spain at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday, having missed Friday s 2-0 win over Italy in Manchester with a sore hamstring.

The five-time Ballon d Or winner has been in typically sublime form for Barcelona this season and he dragged a ragged Argentina to qualification for Russia 2018 by scoring a sensational hat-trick away to Ecuador last October.

The Albiceleste fell at the final hurdle as Germany prevailed 1-0 after extra-time in the 2014 decider and anticipation over what Messi might achieve in the final World Cup of his peak years is palpable…

The aforementioned source claims Barcelona have already tabled an offer believed to be worth around £60 mill…

A lot can change over the course of the international break – Newcastle United have gone from losing 2-1 at Wolves to becoming the world s richest football club, in a sense.

A couple of Newcastle players might be worth your consideration, while Leeds star Raphinha – who would ordinarily be an easy pick – this week represents something of a risk.

Using Opta data, Stats Perform picks out seven players for your consideration.

Ronaldo: Cristiano still second to Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo would be considered the best player in the world if not for Lionel Messi, according to Brazil icon Ronaldo.

The now-retired striker is a big fan of the Portugal international, who has scored a staggering 196 goals in 193 appearances for Real Madrid since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu from Manchester United in 2009.

But Messi has won the Ballon d Or at the end of every year his great rival has been in Spain and former Real forward Ronaldo can understand why.

I would say Messi (is the world s best player) because he is a little bit better than Cristiano, the 36-year-old told Tuttosport.

But I would also add that Cristiano has had unbelievably bad luck. He would have been the best player in the world in many other eras, but he has coi…

Chelsea’s substitutes help them come from behind to edge out AFC Wimbledon

Chelsea had to rely on reinforcements from the bench to survive a scare as a Mauricio Pochettino’s young selection recovered from a goal down to beat League Two AFC Wimbledon 2-1 in the Carabao Cup second round.

It took a first Chelsea goal from substitute Enzo Fernandez to break the visitors’ stubborn resolve at Stamford Bridge, after they had stunned home fans to take the lead through midfielder James Tilley’s 19th-minute penalty.

Noni Madueke equalised from the spot in first-half added time, as an unfamiliar starting XI made heavy weather of seeing off Johnnie Jackson’s team.

Dunne´s Villa career coming to a close

Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne believes his time at the club may soon come to an end.

The Republic of Ireland international has not played for the club this season and believes Paul Lambert will continue to opt for youth over experience.
However, Dunne, who joined Villa in 2009 from Manchester City, insists he has no resentment to either the club or Lambert.
The manager is the manager and whatever he says goes, so there is no point in senior players complaining and saying that you need senior players in the team because it could just be sour grapes, he told Sky Sports News.
But I certainly think there is a place in the team for senior players it is great having all these young lads coming through but when they need someone to turn around and look, it helps.

Almeida hopes Conceicao restores Porto glory, despite Silva sale

Hugo Almeida believes Sergio Conceicao can bring the glory days back to Porto, despite the loss of star striker Andre Silva.

If Benfica s streak of four successive Primeira Liga titles was not bad enough, Porto were forced to part with their prized asset Silva after breaking Financial Fair Play rules – the Portugal international joining AC Milan in a deal reportedly worth €38million.

UEFA also confirmed Porto will be limited to 22 players instead of 25 in their Champions League squad for 2017-18.

It is not an ideal platform for club favourite an ex-Nantes boss Conceicao to start from at the Portuguese giants as he replaces Nuno Espirito Santo and attempts to deliver a league title for the first time since 2012-13.
