Prediction: Atletico GO vs Vasco

Best Odds: 7/10

Bookmaker:

Looking to extend on their recent purple patch, a high-flying Vasco will travel to the Antonio Accioly when they meet Atletico GO late on Wednesday night.

Atletico GO

Starting with the hosts, while Atletico GO might have made a Serie A return this season, the Dragons find themselves at the heart of a real top-flight struggle. Last seen putting in another downbeat display as they slumped to a routine 3-1 drumming away at Brazilian giants Palmeiras, Jair Ventura appears to have some mounting pressure on his shoulders. Opening July with another 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bragantino, the former Santos boss is desperately seeking some kind of boost here. Pencilled in as a leading relegation contender this year, the Goias-based outfit have lost all of their previous three Serie A appearances by an aggregate score of 8-3. Likewise, failing to muster a single victory from any of their last seven consecutive top-flight appearances, Atletico are also waiting to collect a first win on home soil since opening up the 2024 campaign.

Team News

Yet to make a single appearance across any competition since completing a season-long loan switch from Internacional, 32-year-old Gustavo Campanharo remains on the sidelines. Likewise, dealing with a recent knock and yet to feature over the past month, former Guimaraes defender Pedro Henrique is once again seen as a doubt on Tuesday night.

However, after serving a one-match suspension away at Palmeiras last week, attacking talisman Luiz Fernando will make a full return here and spearhead Atletico’s charge here. Notching a first Serie A strike of the season in Sao Paulo, ex-Bahia youngster Shaylon will partner Fernando in the final third.

Vasco

As for the visitors, while Vasco might have opened up the 2024 campaign in the midst of their own struggle, Rafael Paiva’s side have come roaring back. Last seen putting in a dominant performance as they claimed a 2-0 win at home against Corinthians, the former Palmeiras coach should find the mood in his camp at a red-hot high. Opening up July with another 2-0 victory against Fortaleza, the Rio de Janeiro-based outfit have won all of their previous three Serie A appearances. Skyrocketing their way up the table and looking to make another statement here, Vasco should be excited by an eye-catching record against Wednesday’s hosts. Snatching a 0-0 stalemate when they travelled to the Antonio Accioly back in January 2021, Paiva’s men have lost just one of their last six meetings against Atletico GO across all competitions.

Team News

Still dealing with a recent muscle injury, Vasco will once again be unable to call upon the services of former West Ham talisman Dimitri Payet here. Likewise, missing each of Vasco’s previous three Serie A victories since opening up July, former Benfica starlet Joao Victor remains a major doubt late on Wednesday night.

Recording eight goals across all competitions so far this season, veteran striker Pablo Vegetti will spearhead Paiva’s attack in midweek. Former Porto ace and Brazil international Maicon will once again partner Leo at the heart of Vasco’s defence.
