Roma confirmed the appointment of Rudi Garcia as their new head coach on a two-year contract on Wednesday.
The former Lille manager replaces interim coach Andrea Andreazzoli at the Stadio Olimpico.
After joining Lille in 2008, Garcia was surprisingly dismissed in 2009 before being re-instated just two weeks later and leading the club to a league and cup double in 2011.
Roma president James Pallotta told the club s official site: We are very excited and confident that Rudi Garcia is the right coach for AS Roma.
He is a proven winner with a great football mind who we believe fits in perfectly with our vision for the future.
Chief executive Italo Zanzi added: We welcome Rudi Garcia to AS Roma. He will continue to develop our existing talent base while giving us the best opportunity to win now.
We are looking forward to this season more than ever.
Garcia inherits a side that finished sixth in Serie A last season, and he will no doubt be looking to mount a challenge for a UEFA Champions League position in the next campaign.
Roma were also finalists in the 2013 Coppa Italia, but lost 1-0 to rivals Lazio.
